Birthday Quilt for a Grandaughter

This quilt holds high school shirts, it was a birthday gift for a granddaughter
I didn't have enough tshirts so I took a corner of a sleeve as well as a back of a shirt and two sleeves from a colored shirt and made a block that was creative for the quilt. It has solid black cotton fabric with a black scroll print, gray flannel on the back.

Memory Quilt with Embroidery and Pillow Shams

This quilt contains a mother's sweatshirts and one embroidery block since we were short one square
The daughter saw a hummingbird the day of the funeral, so we used that as our theme.
She wanted something also for her daughters, so I made three extra pillow shams.
I tried to take a couple of special pieces from the bottoms of some of the sweatshirt fronts.
She chose a denim flannel for the back. It has a leaf print.
I even used a couple of collars for pieces in the pillow shams
There was a vest so I used the inner and outer layers to add some character
I sent photos to her and she was just in awe. I think she will really treasure all of these keepsakes.

Graduation Quilt with School Skirt

My Customer chose a royal blue fabric for her quilt
She had a grade school skirt that she wanted to use as a block.
There were three shirts with collars that needed some assistance to create some squares.
She chose the same basic color blue flannel backing and I found a multi color blue fabric to make the handmade cotton binding.

Blue Bird Beauty

Blue Birds remind me of my Grandma Marge. I saw two at her celebration of life on the fountain and ever since then I think of her when seeing another. This one came to my front window on Mother's Day, then again yesterday for MeKenzei's Birthday.
Couldn't have picked two more perfect times to appear
He is super quick though and hard to get photos of. I hope he keeps coming by. He has a friend just like the Wood pecker and I can't seem to get photos of both at the same time.

Amazing Fresh Veggies

I was so excited to combine some of this for dinner on my daughters birthday yesterday. I am going to really enjoy the coming months and some fresh produce. It was hard to not eat the last two squash for lunch. I know I should wait and share with my husband though.

Purex Plus Clorox 2 Giveaway

Giveaway for One Coupon to TWO Winners of Purex plus Clorox 2 Stain Fighting Detergent

My husband is probably the one with the most stained clothes. Most everything is very set in so its difficult to maybe test this detergent for a true accurate account of how well it works with his shirts. When I picked up our son at college I knew this pillow was on my list. I was a little embarrassed to bring it down from his dorm. It is VERY Yellow, and just a little gross honestly. I think going to bed with wet hair probably isn't the best idea.

Surprisingly it is only a year old. I asked him about washing it, he said sure give it a try. He was just going to buy another one.

I washed it with Purex Plus Clorox 2 Stain Fighting Liquid Detergent. I did use hot water in this load with a cold water rinse. It does note on the bottle that you can "Pre-treat tough stains by rubbing some Purex Plus Clorox 2 detergent into the fabric and let it sit for 5 minutes before washing." I think on clothing this would be a great option for those spaghetti sauce, juice, oil stains.

He was amazed that it wasn't yellow anymore. It also smelled wonderful which was great. Constant wet hair smell on a pillow isn't so great. It was gentle enough that it didn't bother the fabric of the pillow like bleach itself might. It really has a bright clean appearance and what I love is that it is safe on colors too, so no bleach spots from the accidental splashing when adding bleach to a laundry load. I can tell you I have a few clothing items from that issue.
Purex plus Clorox 2 detergent works on 100 stains through their stain fighting enzymes. What is nice is that sometimes OXY CLEAN which is used so commonly in detergent can leave my skin feeling itchy. This product doesn't have that issue with its safe bleach additive.

I am giving away a coupon to two winners which were provided to me by Purex all you have to do is enter through Rafflecopter using your email or Facebook page. You can enter and have additional entries by following the information.

17th Birthday Celebration

I can't believe how quickly time goes by. We are celebrating another birthday. I know she was excited that it did not fall on Mother's Day. We did some of her birthday Saturday since Mother's Day we planned to get our oldest from college.
Both boys bought gifts with their own money. Our oldest got her a Zelda fabric silk like poster for her wall and the other got her some lilies. He looked for a couple other things but he couldn't find them. I love their giving hearts towards making her feel loved.
I got her six boxes of her favorite tea from Germany. She drinks green tea every morning and really loves it. It was a perfect gift. For dinner she chose Mac N Cheese, Italian Style Green Beans, Cream Style Corn, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and Cheesecake for dessert. I found her some Red Velvet Cupcakes as well, none of the rest of us like them so they are perfect for her to feel very special.

Sick Days

Sometimes this kiddo has to stay home from school. No matter how hard we try his body just doesn't always cooperate. Monday this week I had to pick him up in the morning. We contacted teachers, got homework and tried to make a plan for the week to get caught up. With seven classes you can quickly get behind when you miss a couple of days. Due to the 24 hour rule he had to stay home on Tuesday as well.
We made good use of that time. We tried to get his driving permit renewed. We went and got his hair cut, went and did some shopping and he treated for pedicures. The best part was lunch. The waitress thought we were dating. We had the same situation at the pedicure place. It was kind of funny really. They could not believe I was the age I am, then always assume I started super early. When I explain I have one even older than him, it really puts them over the top. What an awesome lift to a person's day. I am thankful both boys are so good about it.

Spring and Snakes

Spring Time brings storms, which sometimes bring down trees. Not sure how this one truly missed our mailbox, but it was nice that it did. They are expensive to replace.
I was looking out at the horse that same morning, the ground was full of water. Here in the corner out the window you can see the copperhead snake.
Here is a close up. The night before I was walking up the dark walkway and stepped into the house from the porch. My husband and son followed me. I totally did not see another copperhead. I had flip flops on, it was good I didn't notice. We had to kill him because of where he was.
This one of course, my husband let go across the street. I don't care for keeping the poisonous ones.

Graduation Quilt Girly Style

I was a little nervous when we went with pink fabric for this quilt. There were so many bright colors.
Once it was finished it showed how much it truly worked. There was pink in some of the shirts and since the bedroom of this graduate is pink and gray I think it will tie in nicely.
I love this jersey shirt. I was able to keep the V Neck unattached across the orange fabric.
There was a little portion at the bottom of the shirt that she also wanted to keep. It worked perfectly to applique it directly onto the shirt square.
