A Special Quilt

Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress,
and for their children it will be a refuge.
Proverbs 14:26
This is the special Quilt that I mentioned back in February. I can now post because my Dad in Utah has been given it. It was very special to me because he had no idea I was creating it. When I was getting to know him in college he wrote me a letter from Cairo Egypt, where he was stationed at the time. It was a get to know him letter. He mentioned things he liked to do, colors etc. I thought this fish and camping fabric would be perfect. I wanted his quilt to be the first one that I made as a new business which if you remember I filed for my DBA (doing business as) the 18th of February, I made this quilt that night, staying up kind of late to finish it, so that my Aunt could take it back to Utah with her.
I love that it just perfectly worked. All the colors, fabrics everything. Its harder to make these type of quilts because you have to really pay attention to block placement or it throws the entire quilt off.
I love the backing, it is flannel and a fishing type print. It was very soft and cuddly after I washed it.
Okay so my camera would not cooperate! I made this personalized quilt label for the quilt. I did not have the opportunity to have him in my life as a young child but I have gotten to know him a great deal since college and I would say that one impression he has made on me is how important a life with the Lord in it is. I chose this verse because of that.
Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress,
and for their children it will be a refuge.
Proverbs 14:26

I feel very blessed to have two fathers. I have found that they are very different from one another and meet my needs in different ways. I hope in the future that I get to know my Utah dad even better, and that my children will know him also. I have found that us living so far away from family makes it very difficult for my children to know any of their grandparents, great grandparents or other family members. Its a little sad as some of my fondest memories have family in it. My mom deeply expressed her desire for me to have a relationship with him right before her passing. My prayer is that this quilt be a physical indication of that desire.
