Psalms 25:4
Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. (NIV)
I feel that the most important ways for us to learn or see what the Lord wants us to know is for us to read His Word and to have time with Him in prayer. Often we want the Lord to show us what He wants us to do, what path we are to take, yet we may not actively seek Him so that He can guide us.
There have been times in my life where I have two paths before me and I do not know what to choose. Sometimes it is so easy to just go with instinct. Maybe we briefly ask for prayer and go on and make our decision. As a parent and spouse I find that it can be important to pray with our children or spouse directly. With our children I feel it teaches them how to handle some of life’s obstacles that they will face. With our spouses I feel it is a great way to show support and love, that we are concerned about the outcome they may face.
For me my mother was always an avid prayer warrior, as was my mother in law. I was very fortunate to have both women in my life. I often turned to either or both of them to join me in prayer so that the Lord could show me the path that we were to take.
For he says in his Word, 19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:19-20.
I really delight in the idea that the Lord will show us what path to take, sometimes we take a path for a short while so that we can then detour and take another one. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.
We should all take comfort in that the next time we are unsure the path He wants us to take. Remember to go to HIS Word and seek him in prayer. Praise Him for what He has done and for what He will continue to do.
