Tackle It Tuesday - Late

Zekaryah got this shirt from a friend. When he was in the school play they put material on the back of it to hold his mic. I couldn't seem to remove it. He was pretty devastated.
I decided right then that it would be a great front for a pillow sham/case. I get requests all the time for them and it is an item I have added to my ETSY shop. Today I took the front and then some flannel for a quilt I made for my husband for our anniversary and made him a travel pillow for track. He loves to sleep on the bus, it helps him with not having seizures while he is away. He just needed something small so its only about 14 inches but he will love it.
I had made one out of my husbands shirt a while ago, just to see how I wanted to make them. My daughter has claimed it. She loves the feel of the shirt and loves the idea that she can have it as a pillow on her bed. I can see why these are so popular.

21st Anniversary Quilt

My husband was born and raised in Texas. There is something about Texas that I have never seen in any other state I have lived in or visited and that is their pride in their state. It is like no other. He really loves Texas shirts.
As with anything though, they get stained and worn to much and in this case they were the perfect fit for a gift I wanted to put together. I had tried last year because we were celebrating 20 years. I had to put my idea on hold when my son's life turned upside down and we were struggling just to figure out how to keep him in class. Between doctor visits, picking him up early from school and quilt orders to pay for medical bills there just wasn't enough time.
While I am still trying to figure out the medical bills, my quilt orders had a break. I am waiting for shirts for one customer, her fabric has arrived, and I am waiting on fabric for another order, I have their shirts. Therefore it was the perfect time to put this together. I was going to wait until Valentines Day but I decided that you just don't know what tomorrow brings so I finished it up today to give it to him early/late tonight. It will be a late Anniversary gift, early Valentines Day gift and I know he will love using this one for sure.

Local Teacher Quilt Order with Tshirts

This order was for a queen size Tshirt quilt as well as two pillowcases with extra logos
I love teachers so this quilt meant a lot to me. They are a special kind of being.
She chose a really pretty blue leaf flannel for the back, the picture doesn't do it justice
The black fabric for the front was so pretty.
The pillowcases were very unique

Graduation Quilt for a Friends Daughter

So many of our friends children graduate this year
A friend of mine that does massages traded a massage as part of her portion of this quilt and then I paid for the materials
It was a nice joint gift

Graduation T Shirt Quilt

Graduation Quilts keep me pretty busy in the spring time. I love seeing the unique shirts of every order
Sometimes it works great to combine shirts when they don't have much writing on them.

Donation gift for Principal

The Principal of the High School was given another position, so I made a very quick quilt as a gift for a pep rally in two days time. It was a lot of work, but turned out beautifully
I hope it will be a treasure of memories for him
I am thankful to all the organizations that donated the shirts for the quilt.

Graduation Quilts May 2013

This is a son's graduation quilt. He graduates from High School with top honors this month and will attend a local state school. I am hoping he loves his twin size bed quilt.
I used a blue cotton fabric for the border and the same fabric for the binding. The backing is a cotton black scroll print that matches the same print on the front. I love how this quilt turned out. It is nice and comfy yet lightweight.
This is a daughter's graduation quilt. This one made me a little homesick for my dad. I remember going to San Diego as a kid a few times. I did a couple of special things for this one. It included an appliqued tank top onto a red Tshirt back, the tank was thin and very small. Then it included an initial block on the bottom corner. This is a returning customer and she had this same idea put on her daughter's friends quilt last year.
The front is a nice red that is a little darker than the shirts with a scroll print. I used a tiny delicate leaf print in red for the handmade binding and the back is a cotton black scroll print that matches the front. It is also very lightweight and cozy. This one only included 12 shirts which is actually much easier to do for a twin size quilt then the 15.

A Father's Memory Quilt in Progress

I love Memory Quilts
I am always deeply honored to work on Memory Quilts. These are quilts where a loved one sends me their father's, mothers, grandparents, child's etc clothing and then I create a quilt out of this clothing. This particular quilt is a father's clothing who passed away in November. I found it very fitting that the Lord led me to a devotion yesterday from Revelation 21:4 as I begun this order. I am even more honored that her mother is also interested in a quilt order using some of these same clothing items. I was ever so careful when I cut the shirts to ensure that she could choose from any of them for her own quilt. I even suggested using some backs/fronts so that the opposites could be used in the second quilt. I love that there are two sweatshirts in this quilt, one that is a Dad and one that is a Grandpa saying. I am sure this will be treasured for a very long time. I am waiting for the flannel backing to arrive so I can finish the quilt.
