Birthday and Mother's Day weekend

I was thankful to find two used movies starring Johnny Depp for our daughter. She wanted cash for her birthday since she is saving for a downpayment on her braces. I wanted to still at least give her something small to open. This was perfect.
We decided financially that it made more sense to combine her birthday dinner with mother's day dinner to save on some money. So my husband made a nice BBQ steak dinner with baked potatoes, mac n cheese and corn on the cob. This was her birthday request and it worked fine for me. She wanted cheesecake for dessert.
If you remember my post a week ago I wanted a new desk. Now I do admit I thought my husband would make me one. Luck would have it for him that his sister was parting ways with this one. It is working better for me then my old one. I still desire a bookshelf so I will have to see if I can get one built in the next few months. I do like that I can run my embroidery on the desk now instead of having to run the cables across the room onto another table. It works great.
The other request I had was for a clean house. I think we got off to a good start. I still am owed a little time from my younger two children but I am so grateful for my oldest. He really helped pull this off. It was also necessary as we have someone coming to look at the piano this week. I am praying we can sell it and then that we figure out how to move it out of the house and into hers.
I still have a little cleaning to do. I feel good starting the week off a little more under control. I am hoping we can set up a summer calendar with tasks that need to be done. Yesterday while we cleaned my husband added one more step to our porch. That was really nice. We lost the two bottom steps months ago and he had enough time to add one  but it has been unfinished for quite some time. Now its nearly done, he just needs to frame the top. I will have to post pictures later.

Thankful Thursday

Happy Birthday to my daughter who turned 13 today. I just can't say enough about her. She is amazing. I am so thankful the Lord did not listen to me and he gave me a little girl. I am very blessed every day to have her. She is thoughtful and kind. She thinks of others constantly. She is very helpful even without me asking. She works so hard in school and stays top in her class. She has a beautiful voice that I have enjoyed watching mature. She is a wonderful daughter who really thinks of my needs when I get super busy. This past couple weeks she has been helping me reorganize the house since we were able to pass all those garage sale items to the school. I am very grateful for that.
I am thankful today for the provision of a bigger desk! We are selling our piano next week so I have not piled it all down with stuff in case we decide to move it to the dining room. So for now I just have it set up to use the computer. I am thankful my husband's sister thought of us when they were parting with it. I had tried to win one from Pottery barn several months ago with no luck. Now I know why. I just needed to be patient for the Lord's timing.
I am thankful to have another batch of quail, they started hatching late last night but most of them were born this morning. What a perfect day since its my daughter birthday. She loves the really dark brown ones, she calls them turkey's. They seem harder to come by, this batch she got two so far instead of one. We have another batch due in a couple days so I pray she will get a couple more between now and then. The eggs for this batch have about 24 more hours and then they are done. Sure makes life a little busier but quail are super easy so I don't mind.

Chamber Choir Quilt

I have finished one of the choir quilts that I have donated for the schools Pop Show on the 22nd of this month. I am so excited that it turned out so well. I am even more excited that our choir director will get some better photos for me. I know that in the near future I am going to have to get a better camera if I am going to continue doing all these donation quilts. I think this photo does not even do the quilt justice.

Wordless Wednesday not so Wordless

Radishes out of our Garden. YUM! Of course I am the only one that likes them.
Radishes are a great source of vitamin C and are rich in minerals like sulphur, iron, iodine, potassium, magnesium, and folate. They can help clear your sinus cavities and soothe your sore throat. The vitamin C in radishes is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, and has been shown to have a positive effect on asthma symptoms because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Potassium can help lower your risk of kidney stones and strokes, and radishes along a diet high in other fruits and vegetables can significantly lower your risk of multiple sclerosis. They help to maintain a healthy gallbladder and liver, and improve
digestion. Here is a website with more information on radishes. They are super easy to grow. I am going to have to plant some more as the rest of what we planted in the first round should be ready to eat this coming week since we have had some nice slow rainy days lately.

My tackle it Tuesday was to cut and separate all the choir shirts for their designated quilts. WHEW! I didn't go to bed until about 8 am, then got up at 10 to finish one of my ETSY camp orders. I hope to get pictures of that posted when my oldest gets home.

Creativity for Mother's Day

I have learned that Creativity is important for Mother's Day, as well as my Birthday, or even Christmas. If I am wanting something in particular I better not hint about it, no one will get the hint. Note this is on the refrigerator.  I have also learned that if I do not share the ideas I will not get a gift. Just kind of how it works in the household, things are easily forgotten. I have wanted two things for any holiday for quite some time. Maybe we are on the right track this year. They are blinds for my room because there is way too  much light in there at night and my mind does not shut off, and a desk. I desperately need a better desk/organized system. This year I added a body pillow to my list as I just had to throw out my old one, that goes at the end of the bed. I also wrote a list of things I just would like to see done because well I don't have time to do it all.
Now onto a great idea! We had this metal put together shelf holding shoes for quite some time, before that we tried Rubbermaid buckets. This is what I have been wanting. My husband had an extra hour yesterday and I got my desire. It still needs to be painted but he just used some old wood we took down from our daughters room a couple years ago. Then our daughter emptied the old unit, swept the floor and organized everyone's shoes. What a great weekend project. Nice and simple but very functional.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful that choir shirts finally came in today so I can start the quilts that will be auctioned off in a couple of weeks. I was stressing just a tad that we would only be able to auction one quilt. I think I have enough now to do the four I had intended. I am thankful also that I have such a loving and supporting husband. This year has been full of ups and downs for us. I have really dove into volunteering like no other year and had some mixed emotions about it recently. I am thankful he listened and then really just told me to stay honest to myself and the Lord will work it all out. I am thankful he reminded me why I volunteer. I love the relationships that I build with other children while I am at school or in the community. I love that I can spend even more time with my own children who constantly ask if I am coming up. I also enjoy the relationships, small that they are, with other moms. Most of all I just love giving back. I realize that later in life some child might say remember that mom that was always at the school helping us.. the example we set for others is the greatest reward for all our hard work. I am thankful for exercise. I really have picked it back up. I have made a commitment to myself and am making the time, even if it means things are a little more crazy for a while. I am thankful that even though I would love to push a little harder I am trying to keep a routine of just 2 miles per day for a couple weeks and then add in something else. I am staying aware with my past and the severe trouble I had with anorexia. I am so thankful the Lord helps me fight this battle, because I want to be healthy and fit not sick. I am so thankful to have three wonderful children. I have demanded a great deal of them this year. They helped me with a garage sale at school this past weekend. They helped unload a trailer full of boxes two days and then helped with the sale the next day as well as reloading all of the remaining items to haul off. I am thankful that since we are short on volunteers tomorrow they are willing to be my personal assistants and give up their Friday night. I think the best lesson I can give them is to serve in areas as a family, everyone involved..I am thankful for that Godly wisdom. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Photobucket

More Quilting

I finished this quilt today. It was a little difficult because three of the shirts were very small. I decided to cut one other down to the same size and then frame them since the customer wanted them to appear 15 inches. I then placed them in the middle. I sure hope she likes it.
She also wanted her son's name on the back of the quilt in white thread. I used the front border fabric to make it more like a label.
I love how this quilt has several styles of shirts. It made a nice size lap quilt.
