Husbands Caring Memory Quilt

A daughter contacted me and she wanted to turn her dad's clothing into two quilts for her mother. Her mom didn't do much with the internet so she made all the arrangements. 

When her mom sent the clothing there had been a misunderstanding she sent Tshirts and dress type shirts but had wanted what I classify as a memory quilt with small blocks from things like sleeves, pockets, pant legs. So the daughter had to have another box of clothing sent.

It worked out okay since I had my sewing machine issues this summer. I then also got another order with all those Tshirts that were sent.

The mother loved both quilts so much she took them to work to show them off. 

There is such beauty in this fabric too just really adds to all the clothing that was selected for both quilts.

Carnival Cruise Quilts

If you read my post regarding our summer I want to talk to you about one of the many blessings the Lord provided us. We have some friends from the historical society of our town. They heard of the news and let another member know. Between everyone working quickly we had that hospital bed we needed. Also when I got home I had a quilt order. For me quilting is essential. It keeps my bipolar depression in check. With my living room now a bedroom my bedroom became my quilting area. I needed some normalcy and this order helped with that. I am so thankful for the Lords provision. They even brought me Orange Juice which I desperately needed.

What was nice about this particular order is the hope within the shirts, these are travel shirts. I have never been out of the US so it was fun to see all the different shirts and think about one day when he would be well enough again to get out there and go on a vacation.

The summer was taxing, it was hard to stay on top of all the bills. I had to keep faith that God would continue to provide orders. This second order came just in time for me to take my oldest back to college. The profit helped with gas there and back.

I am so thankful for each order this summer. Every single one truly made a difference in whether bills were paid, food was on the table or if kids had enough money for Ecuador, camp etc.

They are a graduation and Christmas all wrapped up in one. 

They were mailed to Grandmas house so the boys did not see their Christmas surprise

23 Christmas Quilts in 40 days

This quilt was made for a principal at a local elementary school that had to retire for medical reasons. I was honored to be asked to make this quilt from their school shirts.

The Magnolia Historical Society lost two members within a months time of each other so I made two quilts one for each husband as a way to show that we loved and cared for these women very much and for their spouses during their time of sorrow.

I am thankful to the people who signed the quilts to make it even more special, they were presented in public at our Hometown Christmas event then given to the husbands at our monthly meeting.

This is the first time I have made a quilt using photo paper, I think it turned out really nice and it will be a great option for future quilt orders

15 Tshirt Quilt

This quilt is the combination of a husbands and wives shirts for their soon to be new blessing. How exciting to give this new baby something from both of them. It was an honor to create this quilt for them.

Breast Cancer Quilt

This was a donation quilt for a teacher at the local high school. She has breast cancer and I wanted to provide her with something that would remind her of all the love and prayer for her from her fellow co workers. They presented it to her and she really loved it. I love the backing. I wish I could find some more of it.

Just Because Quilt

The customer sent me the fabric squares, they were various pieces of fabric in different sizes and I cut blocks to make the same size squares. I then bordered them with a gray fabric to match the gray flannel she had chosen for the backing. I had some leftover gray, yellow and cream fabric from another quilt that was a perfect match for the binding. This made a nice sized lap quilt

Tackle it Tuesday

With teaching this month as a side job I don't seem to find the time to get some posts in. It does not help that we have had lots of power outages with all our rain fall. I finished this up this week as my Tackle it Tuesday for the week. The quilt top holds a T shirt block on purple at the bottom corner that holds initials, she was one shirt short so this became a nice solution to the quilt. Then the top right corner is a shirt that I cut the middle word Wisconsin from and then appliqued to another shirt back. The finished quilt, which I will complete this weekend, will be twin size.

More Quilting

I finished this quilt today. It was a little difficult because three of the shirts were very small. I decided to cut one other down to the same size and then frame them since the customer wanted them to appear 15 inches. I then placed them in the middle. I sure hope she likes it.

She also wanted her son's name on the back of the quilt in white thread. I used the front border fabric to make it more like a label.

I love how this quilt has several styles of shirts. It made a nice size lap quilt.
