Graduation Quilt Girly Style

I was a little nervous when we went with pink fabric for this quilt. There were so many bright colors.
Once it was finished it showed how much it truly worked. There was pink in some of the shirts and since the bedroom of this graduate is pink and gray I think it will tie in nicely.
I love this jersey shirt. I was able to keep the V Neck unattached across the orange fabric.
There was a little portion at the bottom of the shirt that she also wanted to keep. It worked perfectly to applique it directly onto the shirt square.

Mother's Day

I love my Mother's Day gift. I really love the spring summer months when all the birds come around. We have some bushes that bloom little white flowers and the birds/bees love them. Since the living room is where I quilt my husband hung this right outside one of the windows. Hopefully it helps with the squirrel issues I have with our other feeder.

SMU Year 2 Complete

Second year of college at SMU is complete. This kid amazes me. He takes a very difficult course load in school. He received A's in all his classes, was inducted into another Honor Society this year and works at the library on campus. I am so thankful his move out day was Mother's Day. Even though it was long driving there and back all in one day and loading everything up it is awesome to have him home ALL SUMMER.
He is still praying about financial aid for next year, so far no award has been issued.
He is also praying for an internship.
This summer's goals include getting insured to be driving. Praying our finances can handle that.

Testing on a Weekend

The last thing he truly wanted to do on a weekend was go take the SAT test. Its tough, he has extended time to help and he can use a marker for placing as well as his overlay but to test for 6 straight hours is exhausting. Even us adults would be mentally drained afterwards. We took him out to eat after just to say thank you for putting your best forward. I don't know if these tests will help him with college but the other two have taken them and we are just trying to help the Lord guide his path by taking on every opportunity there is.

National Honor Society Junior Year

National Honor Society is awesome. It really helps celebrate your successful grades. I love that they get together at school for a few hours afterwards to just have some fun. What is nice this year is it was the last day of a weeks worth of testing. After all that testing its a much needed break.
Zekaryah works just as hard in class, sometimes harder as its difficult for him at times to retain information, copy it from one text to another etc. He has improved so much this year. I love how far his writing has truly come. He does an amazing job at giving time to the Lord. He is always willing to serve in any capacity he can. He works as a student leader for the ministry, he serves in the band, he works with little ones in our younger areas called Son Harbor, he also helps with sign language on stage during the music time on Sundays for the youth. He really loves this portion of serving. He is involved in Track, Cross Country, Men's Choir Ensemble at School as well as Mixed Chorale. He is BUSY~
I love hearing from other parents about how hard he works, how honest he is and just what a blessing he is in their lives. While he may not make grades enough to be in Honor Society he does an amazing job in my book.

Junior Night Awards

I can't tell you how proud I am of this girly right here. She works so incredibly hard. In addition to a full AP Course load class wise, she serves as Historian for the Junior Class, she also volunteers as a leader for Student Ministry, serves as part of the Student Ministry Band Team and works in Son Harbor- the Sunday School portion of service. She is involved in Student Council, Choir- a couple different ensembles etc.
She is super busy. I remember when our oldest was in high school it was tough for him to get everything done. She has so much more on her plate with church obligations added to her coursework yet is still able to achieve high grades and accomplish so much.
This year beyond perfect attendance, which can be difficult to do
She received an award for her AP US History Class. This class has been a struggle. Its a new instructor, hes tough, he never has projects he is quiz and test based only for grades and you not only have to read but  you take MOUNTAINS of notes in order to do well. She has two binders worth for this class.
She received Early Decision paperwork for Mary Harden Baylor, so we will be applying in August. ACT and SAT scores are back, so this summer will be a great deal of work preparing for AP Chem, Physics or Biology (she will take 2 of the 3 courses) as well as AP Music Theory, an AP Math, English and History course and Ensemble Choir. Senior year is going to be super busy.

Wood Pecker Friend

I enjoy bird watching while quilting. I love that wood peckers have been coming by. I finally caught a picture of this one. However, his mate did not stick around long enough for me to get them both.
Amazing how vibrant in color they are
So beautiful~

Sunshine Quilts

A mother taken much too soon, her dresses to comfort those still here that miss her terribly.
The dresses were cut into larger squares and yellow fabrics were used for the front border, flannel backing and binding.
Each quilt has its own unique yellow border fabric for around the shirts. Then two quilts had matching flannel, and the third had a second design.
These photos don't do the yellow fabrics justice. It was very overcast and stormy the day they were taken. They were beautiful and truly reminded me of Sunshine.

Movie Date Nights

Zekaryah loves to go to the movies as date nights/days. We went the other day when the rain was so bad that the electricity was out everywhere in our town. They had cancelled school at 11 and we made the best of it. We got his passport done so that he could go to Ecuador and we went to a movie.
He has taken me on two dates this past month, one very last minute and the other I surprised him right after school, he had tried twice to take me out and I had to cancel. I enjoy spending these moments with them.

Spring Garden Success

I was very nervous having a garden this Spring. Last spring we had so much rain that it did terribly. This spring the rains came again somehow we have been spared with the damage too much water can cause.
Bell peppers and squash are finally coming in, it is very exciting.
Too much rain did mean we lost the potato plants, so our crop wasn't great but it was enough to probably turn all these into seed potatoes and start again.
